This guide describes how to configure and use transitions in LiveU Studio to control how your scenes change during a live production. Whether you aim for smooth fades, branded graphic animations, or hotkey-driven effects.
1. Standard Transition Methods
- Default transitions: Built-in animations such as fades or wipes that are immediately available.
- Custom graphic transitions: Upload your own APNG/MOV or WebM animation to use as a transition asset.
- Auto-apply: An instantaneous cut without animation.
- Hotkey-linked transitions: Assign transitions to specific keyboard shortcuts for rapid triggering -> more information on the dedicated tutorial.
2. Accessing Transition Settings
To begin configuring transitions:
Open LiveU Studio and go to the main Production interface.
Open the Transition settings panel located between your Preview & Program
3. Configurable Attributes per Transition
For each defined transition, you can configure the following parameters to tailor the timing and behavior:
Animation Type: Select the transition method (e.g., fade, wipe, slide).
Duration: Total time the transition animation takes.
Start Delay: Delay before the transition begins after activation.
Hotkey Assignment: Link a keyboard shortcut to this specific transition for immediate control during production.
4. Custom Graphic Transitions
LiveU Studio allows custom graphic animations as transition assets, subject to the following requirements:
Format must be APNG/MOV or WebM.
The animation must not loop.
The final frame should be transparent so that the outgoing scene blends smoothly into the incoming one.
Once uploaded, these graphic transitions can be selected from the transition type list and configured with delay, and hotkey controls.

5. Auto-Apply (Instant Cut)
Auto-apply refers to an instantaneous cut with no visible animation. This is useful when you need a quick switch without transitional effects. Example use cases include sudden source changes or tight live timing requirements.
6. Triggering Transitions
Transitions can be executed in multiple ways:
Via Hotkeys
Assign a specific hotkey to a transition.
Pressing that key during a live event will invoke the transition with its configured timing.
Via UI Button
Use the transition button within the LiveU Studio interface to trigger the selected transition.
7. Assigning Transitions to Specific Inputs
If your input tiles in LiveU Studio use Preview/Program (red/green) areas, you also have the option to assign transitions directly to specific inputs:
Hover over the input tile.
Right-click on the tile you want to assign a transition to.
In the context menu, select a transition to bind to that input.
Whenever you click the Program (red) part of that input tile, the assigned transition will play concurrently with the input switch. This streamlines workflow by combining source switching and transition animation in a single action.
